Stolen Mail Suspect From Stamford Faces Child Porn Charge, Darien Police Say

A man busted in Fairfield County with more than 60 pieces of stolen mail earlier this year is facing new charges after being busted with child pornography, police in Darien said.

Carlos Artiles, 28, of Patterson, New Jersey, who was a suspect in the theft of mail from mailboxes in January, which allowed investigators to apply for a search warrant to check the contents of his cellphone.

According to police, while searching his phone, detectives located a 30-second video of what appeared to be a minor involved in a sexual act. Investigators noted that it was determined that Artiles received the video from a third party and was not involved in its creation.

Based on the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued with a $100,000 bond, and Artiles, who was already in custody, was arraigned on a first-degree child pornography charge on Tuesday, July 30.
